Our Curriculum at St Edmund’s
At St Edmund’s, we believe every child deserves a rich, balanced and inspiring education. Our curriculum is carefully designed to nurture the whole child academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually, so that when pupils leave us, they are:

  • Confident communicators: able to express themselves clearly across a range of subjects.
  • Active contributors: empathetic, respectful and with a strong sense of justice.
  • Independent, aspirational learners: resilient, capable and eager to achieve.
  • Healthy in mind and body: aware of their worth and guided by strong moral values.

What We Teach
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage in Nursery and Reception, and the National Curriculum in Years 1–6. This ensures pupils build secure knowledge and skills year-on-year. Alongside this, we enrich the curriculum with additional activities, trips and experiences that help children learn more, remember more, and broaden their horizons.

How We Teach

  • Thinking Skills: we use Thinking Maps and Habits of Mind to help children organise ideas, recall knowledge and develop problem-solving skills.
  • Zones of Regulation:  a whole-school approach to help children recognise and manage their emotions, ensuring they are always ready to learn.
  • Reading at the heart: we place a strong emphasis on reading and vocabulary, working closely with parents to establish positive reading habits from the very start.

Faith at the Centre
As a Catholic school, Religious Education (RE) is a core subject, guided by the Curriculum Directory from the Bishops of England and Wales. RE isn’t just a lesson, it permeates the whole life of our school, shaping our ethos and daily practice.

Beyond the Classroom

We are proud to offer specialist teaching in PE, Music and French, which pupils thoroughly enjoy and often highlight in their end-of-year reflections. In addition, a wide range of clubs and enrichment opportunities give children the chance to discover and develop their own talents and interests.
