Pupil Leadership
Pupil Leadership: Empowering Every Child
At St Edmund’s, we believe that children flourish when their voices are heard and they can take meaningful roles in school life. That’s why our Pupil Leadership opportunities are so important they build confidence, responsibility, and a strong sense of belonging, while living out our Catholic values in action.
Here’s how your child can make a real difference at school:
- Mini-Vinnies: Compassionate student leaders who support local and national charities throughout the year.
I love helping others, it makes me proud to know I can make a difference. Year 5 pupil
- Junior Safety Officers: Promoting safety across the school community, from pedestrian and fire awareness to water safety, in partnership with Richmond’s Safety Education Team.
We’ve taught the younger children how to cross the road safely, it feels good to keep everyone safe. Year 6 pupil
- Buddies & Anti‑Bullying Ambassadors: Children who offer friendship, resolve playground conflicts, and promote kindness. Recognised with the Diana Anti-bullying Badge for their positive impact.
If someone feels left out, I make sure they know they have a friend. Year 4 pupil
- School Council: A democratically elected student body where pupils gain real leadership experience; chairing meetings, setting agendas, and shaping school life.
We get to bring everyone’s ideas to the teachers; it feels like our opinions really matter. Year 6 councillor
- Eco‑Team (Laudato Si): Champions for our planet who lead recycling, energy-saving initiatives, and campaigns like Richmond’s ‘No Idling’, inspired by Catholic Social Teaching.
We planted trees in the field it’s exciting to know they’ll still be here when we’re grown up. Year 3 pupil
- Young Interpreters: Kind and welcoming older pupils who support newcomers learning English, helping them settle in and feel valued.
It’s nice to help new children feel included, I remember when I was new, too.

Why It Matters
Our young leaders don’t just fill roles, they make real change happen. From promoting safety and inclusion to taking care of our environment and neighbours, they live the Gospel call to serve others. These leadership experiences help children grow in faith, empathy, and confidence, qualities that last a lifetime.
