Attendance & Punctuality
At St Edmund’s, regular attendance and punctuality are essential for every child’s success. When children are in school every day and on time, they learn more, build stronger friendships, and develop the positive habits that will stay with them throughout life.
Why it Matters
-
Every day counts: even missing one day each fortnight adds up to nearly two weeks of lost learning a year.
-
On time means ready to learn: arriving late can mean missing key instructions, disrupting the class, and leaving children feeling unsettled.
-
Good habits for life: excellent attendance and punctuality are skills that future schools, colleges and employers will expect.
Our Expectations
-
We aim for at least 96% attendance across the school.
-
90% attendance or below is considered persistent absence and has a serious impact on learning.
-
All children should arrive by 8:50 am when lessons begin. Arrivals after this time are marked late.
Working Together
We know children can sometimes be unwell, and we encourage families to keep children at home when they are too poorly to learn. However, for minor illnesses, we encourage pupils to be in school if they are able.
If your child is absent:
-
Please contact the school office, or complete the form here by 9:00 am with the reason for absence.
-
Try to arrange medical appointments outside school hours whenever possible.
We regularly monitor attendance and punctuality. Where concerns arise, we work closely with families to provide support and find solutions, always with the shared goal of helping your child succeed.
Together, we can ensure that every child makes the most of their time at St Edmund’s.
