Performance
Assessment
Assessment helps us build a picture of each child’s learning and progress over time. Teachers use a range of assessments, both daily and periodic, to plan next steps, adapt teaching, and evaluate whole-school priorities. Assessment also helps monitor the impact of initiatives and guides staff development and resources.
There are three main types of assessment:
- Formative assessment: day-to-day checks to inform teaching.
- In-school summative assessment: reviews of learning at the end of a unit or period.
- Nationally standardised summative assessment: government tests used to measure attainment and hold schools to account.
Progress
Every child’s progress is unique, and at St Edmund’s we track learning from entry through to exit to show progress over time. We use the Insight system to monitor attainment and progress against the National Curriculum; currently in English, Maths, Science and RE, with foundation subjects to follow.
Children in Nursery and Reception are assessed through the EYFS curriculum, while Years 1–6 follow the National Curriculum.
